The mercury arc lamps are widely used in material curing industrial, which lamp with a 3000-10000 hours life time. Compared with ultraviolet radiation LED lights’ 50000 hours lifespan, the mercury-vapor lamp is totally failed, and this kind conventional lamp has an extra & slowly warm-up/cool-down process. But its light output still not pure/narrow enough, come with some unexpected wavelengths. Moreover, the most unacceptable thing of mercury arc lamp is more than 70% energy be used to produce heat, not the UV light we expected from it.
Unfortunately, the UV output decay of mercury-vapor lamp is much faster than we can imagined, because its structure design and electrode material vaporizes – After a time, there will has a film appearance on the quartz tube inside, which can block the UV light output. This is a very big annoyance thing of production curing operation, it also a key point to judge the UV lights’ quality is good or not.

Because of the mercury, once the cold-cathode florescent lamp (CCFL) is broken, you have to cost more to deal with the toxic gas and the broken lamp-self. However, the ultraviolet radiation LED light is high resistance against impact and vibration, it keep the breakage rate and maintenance cost at a very low level & environment friendly.
UV LED can disinfect water as we mentioned before, and it is flexible design possible. So, we can make a compact and safer solution for the water sterilization applications. For a very common UV light application, the nail polish curing, LED UV light will be a better option, because of its lower frequency UV lighting and purely wavelength range. And there has a report from American Academy of Dermatology that is the low quality conventional UV lamp may leads skin cancer, if you use it do the Nail polish curing too often.

And please do not forget that the UV LED lamp has a higher quality and safer, offering a better performance and reliable testing service. These big advantages will be found out by yourself when you are using them. Low level lights with a lower upfront cost, and it looks ok at the early time. But from the long-term sight, you have no possible to get a good return on this investment.

UV light also can damage our eyes and skin, when you exposure to UV radiation without any protection at a long time or very often. Because more than 99% of UV radiation can absorbed by eyes, may lead the cataracts, corneal damage and even blindness is possible; for skin it can leads Melanoma, a cancer.
